Migrate from Yotpo to Omnisend: A step-by-step guide

With the confirmation by Yotpo that they’ll exit Email and SMS products in December 2025, we have developed this step-by-step guide to help Shopify stores navigate the process of migrating your email and SMS Marketing to Omnisend.

Our Yotpo migration guide has been designed to ensure:

• Your store will have no downtime as you migrate to Omnisend
• Your contacts will be safely and securely transferred
• Your deliverability rates will be maintained
• Your stress levels will be absorbed by us, rest easy we will get this sorted for you 🙂

1. Migrating your Contacts from Yotpo to Omnisend

Your contact data is a key asset for your business and one that must be managed carefully both from a commercial and privacy compliance perspective. To ease this important step in the migration process from Yotpo to Omnisend the Omnisend team have built a data migration tool that moves your contacts across from Yotpo to Omnisend in just a single click.

Access the Omnisend Migration Dashboard

In your Omnisend account, navigate to Dashboard → Yotpo migration

If you can see this Yotpo migration tab it indicates that your Shopify store is already connected to Omnisend and you are all set to automatically migrate your contacts to Omnisend.

If the Yotpo migration tab is not present in the menu, you’ll need to connect your Shopify Store to Omnisend.

Start the Synching of your contacts between Yotpo and Omnisend

In the migration dashboard, click the Start syncing contacts button

Migrate your audience, tags, opt-ins a and engagement status from Yotpo to Omnisend in a single click

Once you have selected to Start syncing contacts you’ll see a confirmation message at the head of your screen confirming that “Contact sync started. We’ll notify you when it’s done.”

As the data syncing is in process the Start syncing contacts button will revert to Contact sync in progress

As your data is syncing the button will change to Contact sync in progress

Once the syncing process has finished you’ll see a message Contacts synced.

OK that’s complete. Your Yopto contacts are now all hosted in the Omnisend Platform and will appear in the Audience. You are now all set to commence sending campaigns and automations to your contacts.

What data is imported from Yotpo to Omnisend?

The automatic syncing process imports the following audience data:

→ All your contacts (your audience)

→ Contact Properties (tags, opt-ins, statuses)

→ Segments (moved as custom properties in Omnisend)

→ Engagement data from the last 12 months

The Yotpo Suppression list

Yotpo has a suppression list, Omnisend does not. Any contact marked as a supression in Yotpo will be migrated across to Omnisend and marked as an unsubscribe.

2. Migrating your Workflows from Yotpo to Omnisend

This aspect of the migration is where most Shopify stores feel the most pain and anguish as the process of migrating workflows from Yotpo to Omnisend does not include pulling across any templates you have built in Yotpo, as the template builder in Yotpo is not compatible with the Omnisend, nor any other email platforms email builder.

The step-by-step process we run through below is focussed on migrating across the copy and triggers that are populated into your current Yotpo workflows, which is s good starting point from which to re-create your template designs.

To illustrate the migration process we’ll outline the steps involved in migrating a Welcome Automation to Omnisend.

Migrating a Welcome Automation from Yotpo to Omnisend

We have assumed that your Welcome Automation features both an email and SMS message.

Step 1. In Yotpo select the Welcome flow which you wish to migrate over to Omnisend

From “My Flows” select the Welcome Flow to be migrated to Omnisend

Step 2. In your Omnisend Account navigate to Automations → Create Workflow → select a Welcome pre-built automation workflow

Here we are selecting the option to create a new Automation in Omnisend

We now select the prebuilt Welcome Automation workflow which will be the basis for our new Welcome Automation

Step 3. The trigger for the Welcome Automation in Omnisend is “subscribed to marketing” whilst in Yotpo the trigger is “new subscriber confirmation.”

Step 4.  Where your Yotpo Welcome workflow includes a text message this can be copied across in to the Omnisend Welcome Automation. To commence this process copy the text from your Yotpo workflow.

Step 5. WE now add a SMS block into our Omnisend Automation by dragging the SMS block into the required position.

Step 6.  Paste the text message content into the “message text” panel in Omnisend

Step 7. To add personalization to your text message by selecting (-) to reveal the drop down from where you select Account name

Step 8. Here we can add the Company name or clients name into the text message

Step 9. In the Yotpo example the text message features a discount code, here’s how we’d replicate this in Omnisend.

Step 10. The unique code has now been generated and is present within the text message. From here simply repeat the process for each of the emails and text messages within the workflow. Once you have copied them all across to Omnisend, click “Start Workflow“.

Step 11. Complete the key details for each email within the Automation, ensuring you add your Subject line, Pre-header text and sender details.

Step 12. Designing  templates within Omnisend. As we noted earlier it is not possible to migrate across your template designs from Yotpo to Omnisend so you’ll need to re create them in Omnisend. The good news is Omnisend has a fabulous email builder which is super easy to use and enables you to create beautiful and highly responsive email templates.

3. Setting up your SMS marketing in Omnisend – Toll-free Number Verification Request

To send your SMS marketing with Omnisend we’ll need set up your sending number.

If you already have a number that you used with Yopto, you can easily transfer this to Omnisend, here’s how:

In your Omnisend Account navigate to Store Settings → SMS and select “bring your number”

The page below will now be shown that directs you to a dedicated sign-up page where you can then transfer your SMS sending number. select Use my number on the page shown below:

To commence the sign up process select “Start”

Proceed to complete the form below, being careful to enter the correct digits for the number you are transferring across.

The transfer of the verified number usually takes 48 hours, during this time you will be unable to send any SMS marketing campaigns.
