Frequently Asked Questions

May the growth be with you / Frequently Asked Questions

A chance to get to know a little more about us.

+ - What makes May the Growth be with you different to the plethora of email marketing agencies?

Our focus is not on being different, but more about being equipped to fulfil the challenges that email marketing throws at us.

We believe that our years as email marketers is what enables us to deliver superior outcomes for our clients.

In an industry where the technology platforms have evolved to a point where they offer so much opportunity it’s important to have the ability to filter these opportunities to identify those that are going to deliver the greatest incremental returns.

+ - Why do you believe data is so important for email marketing success?

To have a long term profitable relationship with a customer through the email channel we believe the relationship must be equitable.

For it to be equitable the eRetailer should respect the customers inbox by only conversing through this when they have something they categorically know is relevant to that customer.

To honour this the eRetailer must be led by their data which informs them of how to best nurture and manage each and every customer relationship.

Many talk about customer segmentation, few truly understand it. We consider it to be our core expertise.

+ - Do you have a preferred email platform?

Over the last 15 years we have used the majority of the email platforms available today.

From this exposure we appreciate that each platform has its Pro’s and Cons, and as such many have very different use cases that fit their offerings.

Of the “New Breed” of platform we appreciate what Klaviyo have built but we also recognise that they have Shopify as an investor and acquire many of their users through preferential treatment from this partner.

We also recognise that many agencies focus on a single platform as that maximises their opportunity for commission, paid by the platforms, from these clients.

From this our position is that we use our extensive exposure to the plethora of options to assess the best fit platform for our clients. Through this process we find that we work most frequently with Omnisend, mailer Lite, Salesforce, Iterable and Klaviyo.

+ - Do you only work with eRetailers?

The significant majority of our work is with eRetailers, the majority of whom are using the Shopify Platform, with whom we partner.

Around 10% of our clients are SaaS businesses where our focus is on developing customer journeys that convert free product trials into loyal paying users.

+ - How do clients work with you?

We tend to work with clients in one of three ways:

  1. Outsourced email department
  2. Extension of clients email team
  3. Project delivery

Here’s some detail on each of these approaches:

1. Out sourced email department

Our clients who opt for this approach tend to be large eRetailers who believe the most efficient approach to delivering the best outcomes from email marketing are derived by contracting an expert team.

2. Extension of Clients email team

This approach is popular with clients who have an internal email marketing team/resource to whom they are seeking to add additional expertise. This approach is highly collaborative and often includes an element of knowledge tranfer from the agency to the client team, so the internal team attain significant opportunities to up skill.

3. Project delivery

This approach is predominately used where a client has a very specific requirement which is scoped in a SOW, examples would be a review and overhaul of the key Automations/Flows or a review of the customer segmentation strategy.

+ - How do clients measure your impact/performance as an agency?

All our client engagements include some level of performance targets.

We believe email marketing is a highly data driven marketing channel and as such it should be measured and reported on.

+ - Do you offer a free audit of accounts?

We are aware that many agencies offer a free “Account Audit”.

These Free Audits have a tendency to be simply a sales tactic by the agencies whereby they gain access to your account, on the premise of having the skills and expertise to assess your account set up and current performance.

In the majority of cases these audits are all very similar in nature and call out the same “account issues“, which unsurprisingly the agency is then on hand to correct.

Our approach is that we will provide an assessment of your current email marketing performance which will include a thorough assessment of how all the key aspects of your account are configured, though this will not be conducted as a free service.

An assessment of any value will take upwards of 4 days to complete, we refrain from charging for the full 4 days, but generally our platform assessments attract a charge of between USD$500 and USD$1,000.

The offer we do make is that if we are appointed by the client to conduct any of the work highlighted in the assessment report we will debit the cost of the assessment from the costs of conducting the work.

+ - How do you charge for your services?

We don’t believe a one size fits all approach works so we tend to provide a Statement of Work against the scope of work.

We infrequently work on monthly retainers with clients though our preference is to provide amore flexible approach in synch with clients requirements which have a tendency to vary month on month.

Our intention is to provide our first class email marketing expertise at a price that makes sense relative to what we deliver to your bottom line.
