Shopify Product Review App to be retired May 6th 2024
It has now been confirmed by Shopify that the Shopify Product Reviews App will be officially deprecated on May 6, 2024.
The confirmation was published in the Shopify Help Center earlier this year. This announcement confirmed that all reviews within the app would be deleted on May 6th 2024, the full announcement from Shopify is featured below:
On May 6, 2024, the Product Reviews app will be removed from Shopify, and is no longer available to install. After this time, you’ll no longer have access to your existing product reviews, and reviews from the app will no longer display on your store. To continue collecting and displaying product reviews on your store, you need to migrate to another product review app before May 6, 2024.
Shopify merchants who are using the Shopify Review App were given 3 months notice of this decision by Shopify.
So now with less than a month before the App will be unavailable it’s critical that anyone currently using Shopify Product Reviews exports their reviews from the App.
How to Export reviews from the Shopify Review App
To export your reviews from the Shopify Review App follow this 6 step process:
- From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.
- From the Apps and sales channels page, click Product Reviews.
- Click Open app.
- Click Settings.
- Click Export.
Merchants with less than 100 reviews
On clicking export a CSV spreadsheet file will download in your browser. Once its downloaded save this into a folder on your computer or into G Drive.
Merchants with more than 100 reviews
On clicking export your reviews will be downloaded and within a couple of minutes you’ll receive an email to the address which you have set in your Shopify Account. Within this email you’ll find a link, simply click this link to download your review as a ZIP file.
Now you have an export file of your reviews you can be assured that you are not going to lose those hard earned customer reviews.
To get these reviews back on your store you’ll need to select a review app that fits your needs and your budget, the Shopify app store has plenty of options.
Selecting the best alternative to the Shopify Reviews App?
A search in the Shopify app store for “Review Apps” will make it clear that there is no shortage of options, though navigating the many options to select the one that is right for your store can be tricky.
